Who Should I Bring To My Appointment?

Amber Harris - Monday, June 11, 2012

You've been dreaming of this moment since you were a little girl. Nervous butterflies fill your stomach as you open the door to the only bridal shop you've ever entered. Beautiful bridal gowns surround the area and you can't wait to step inside of one for the first time.

Suddenly, you see the gown that matches the image you've had in your mind since the day you got engaged. Excitement fills your body as the consultant takes it to your dressing room. No other gown matters at this time and you just have to put it on immediately. Everything about this gown is perfect. As you slide into it reality sets in that this could be your wedding gown. You feel like the stunningly gorgeous bride you've always wanted to be. Hushed whispers can be heard from your bridal party as they anxiously await your debut. This is it. Nothing can ruin this moment and you're ready to step out and show everyone your dream gown.

The curtain opens and you see your reflection in the mirror for the first time as a bride. Breathtaking. Tears starting filling your eyes as you step onto the platform and admire such a perfect image. Your moment of bliss is short lived, however, and the biggest smile you've ever had on your face starts to fade as you look around at your bridal party. Why don't they look happy? A million thoughts start running through your mind but the only phrase you can whisper is, "What's wrong?".

Don't allow your perfect moment of joy to end up this way. Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life, but the engagement period before that big day are precious as well. The memories you make during the planning process are just as important as the final outcome. While it is tempting to include every member of your family in the experience, Brides often feel overwhelmed and lost with so many opinions floating around.

Choosing one or two supportive family members or friends will lessen your stress and make your visit to our bridal shop more pleasant. Don't worry about hurting anyone's feelings if they aren't invited to attend. You can include them in other areas of your wedding planning. Shopping for a bridal gown is a deeply personal day that is meant to be included with the few people who are the closest to you.  Taste varies from person to person and ultimately, it is your own thoughts on the gown that matters. It is nice to have the comforting words of your mother and the honest outlook of your maid of honor, but it is unneccesary and confusing to have the opinions of 5 other people. Remember that this is YOUR day. You want to make a memory that you will cherish, not create a circus act that leaves you feeling frustrated and deflated.
